JOINING IN:

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION STORIES

Take listeners beyond passive storylistening by involving their minds, voices, and bodies in the experience of the story. Learn to elicit responses ranging from simple repetition and gestural accompaniment to high levels of creative and evaluative thinking. Teachers and librarians can then direct that energy into reading motivation, research, writing, artwork, and more.

Learn-by-doing a variety of "Joining In" stories which actively involve listeners' bodies, voices, and critical thinking skills. We'll discuss how, when -- and whether -- to add participation into a story. In small groups, you will develop your own JI version of a short fable.
